KingMovies: every kingdom of Indian cinema, from Sairat to RRR

India has many film industries rather than one, each with its own language, stars, music and style, and each with a nickname borrowed from Hollywood: Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood, Mollywood. KingMovies is built around those kingdoms. The page is a deep royal plum, the headings are set in a carved Roman capital typeface, gold marks everything you can press, and crowns appear wherever something is ranked. Each visit opens with one title crowned King of the day, its royal court beside it, and a map of the kingdoms beneath.

This guide explains how to use KingMovies and what you will find on it. The first part covers the layout: the header, Today's reign, the royal court, the kingdom tiles, the poster rows, the hall of fame and the title pages with their Watch now button. The second part is a tour of the kingdoms, from Bollywood and Tollywood to Marathi and Bengali cinema, with Hollywood favourites and Hindi web series. The third part is practical: audio and subtitles, regional streaming services, free and legal options, devices, the official site and staying safe.

The header

At the top of every page sits a plum header, fixed in place as you scroll, with a thin ribbon of gold and crimson along its lower edge. On the left, the logo shows a gold crown with a small crimson jewel and a play button in its band, followed by KING in gold and MOVIES in pale lilac, both in the same carved capitals.

Beside the logo, the menu offers Home, Kingdoms, Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Web series, Hall of fame and My List in small capitals. The page you are on is filled in gold with plum letters. On the right, a rounded search box with a gold magnifier waits for a title, a star or a director.

On smaller screens the menu folds into a gold Menu button, the logo moves to the centre and the search box takes a row of its own.

Today's reign

The home page opens with Today's reign. Behind it, the backdrop of the featured title fills the width of the screen, darkened with plum so the writing stands out. A small gold crown and the words Today's reign sit above the KingMovies headline and a short paragraph that names the kingdoms.

Below, a panel with a thin gold border holds the King of the day: the poster in a gold frame with a small crown badge perched on its top edge, a crimson label that reads King of the day, the title in large capitals, the year, runtime and score in gold, a few lines of story, a gold Watch now button and an outlined More button.

At the moment the crown belongs to RRR, S. S. Rajamouli's story of two revolutionaries, one of the most celebrated Indian films of its decade.

The royal court

Beside the King of the day, a panel titled The royal court lists seven more titles in order, each with its rank, a small poster, its title and its year and runtime.

At the moment the court holds Dhurandhar, K.G.F: Chapter 2, 12th Fail, Vikram, Manjummel Boys, Sairat and Panchayat: one film from almost every kingdom, and a web series for good measure.

On a phone, the court follows the King of the day, so you can scroll straight from the crowned title to its companions.

The kingdom tiles

Below the hero, The kingdoms presents eight tiles, one for each film industry. At the top of each tile, a strip of three stills from its most popular films gives a sense of its style; beneath the strip, a gold shield carries the kingdom's initial.

The shields for Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood, Mollywood and Hollywood carry Latin letters, while Marathi carries म in Devanagari and Bengali carries ব in Bengali script, a small nod to the languages themselves. Under the shield come the kingdom's name, its language and its number of titles.

Tap a tile to enter the kingdom, where every one of its films fills a grid.

The poster rows

After the tiles come five rows, each with a small gold crown beside its heading and an Enter the kingdom link on the right: Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood and Web series of the realm.

Each row shows six posters with rounded corners and a thin violet frame. The score sits in a small gold ring in the top-right corner, and beneath each poster the title appears in bold, with the year and runtime in soft lilac.

Hovering over a poster outlines it in gold and enlarges the image slightly.

The hall of fame

The hall of fame lists the ten highest-rated titles across every kingdom, in two columns. The first three places wear crowns: gold for first, silver for second and bronze for third. The rest show their number in lilac.

Each entry has a small poster, the title, the year and runtime, and the score in gold. Only titles with at least five hundred votes enter the hall, so it reflects the verdict of large audiences, and films from very different kingdoms sit side by side.

A link at the top right opens the full Hall of fame page, with the top one hundred titles.

Shelves and help

Near the foot of the home page, every shelf appears as a rounded pill with its count in gold: the eight kingdoms, Web series, Action, Drama, Thriller and crime, Comedy and New releases.

A grid of violet cards gathers the help pages, each with a title in carved capitals and a one-line summary: how to watch, the kingdoms, Tollywood and Kollywood, regional cinema, Bollywood, web series, audio and subtitles and more.

The footer closes every page with the logo, the tagline in gold, the main links and a note on where the information comes from.

The title page

Every film and series has its own page. At the top, the poster sits beside the title, the original title in its own script, such as सैराट for Sairat, and a row of tags for HD, the type, the year, the runtime and the genres.

A few lines of story follow, then the gold Watch now button and an Add to My List button. Below, a panel titled Where to watch explains the viewing options, and a grid of facts lists the original title, the release date, the original language, the country, the runtime and the studio.

The cast follows with photographs, and series pages add a list of seasons and episodes with their air dates.

The Watch now button

Press Watch now on any title page, choose your country in the panel that opens, and press the button again. KingMovies sends you to the title's page on JustWatch, the independent guide that follows streaming services in every country.

There you see every subscription that includes the title, every store that rents or sells it and every free service with adverts that shows it.

Choose one and the title opens in that service's app or website, where the audio menu lets you pick the language you prefer.

Choosing your country

India comes first in the country list, followed by the countries with the largest audiences for Indian cinema abroad: the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Australia, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and Germany.

Bangladesh is included for the Bengali kingdom, which spans Kolkata and Dhaka.

KingMovies remembers your choice and uses it on every Watch now button. Change it from the viewing panel at any time.

Bollywood

Bollywood, the Hindi film industry based in Mumbai, is the largest and best-known kingdom. Its films are famous for their stars, their songs and their sense of occasion, and they reach audiences across India and far beyond.

The newest hits lead the shelf: Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge follow an undercover operative in Karachi, Saiyaara is a love story that became a sensation, and KILL is a relentless action film set aboard a night train.

The Bollywood guide picks highlights, and the Bollywood shelf holds the whole kingdom.

The stars of Bollywood

Shah Rukh Khan is Bollywood's most famous king, and the shelf follows him from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Veer-Zaara to My Name Is Khan, Chennai Express, Fan, Raees, Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki.

Aamir Khan brings Like Stars on Earth, 3 Idiots, PK and Dangal; Salman Khan brings Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai; Hrithik Roshan brings Koi... Mil Gaya, Krrish, War and Fighter.

Ranveer Singh's Padmaavat and Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi show the grandeur of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films.

Bollywood's new voices

Some of the most loved recent Hindi films are smaller stories. 12th Fail follows a young man from a poor village preparing for India's toughest exam, and Lost Ladies follows two brides swapped by accident on a crowded train.

Stree mixes horror with comedy in a small town, Tumbbad is a folk tale of greed, and Andhadhun is one of the cleverest thrillers of its decade.

Pink is a courtroom drama about consent and justice, Hichki follows a teacher with Tourette's syndrome, and Dear Zindagi follows a young woman finding her way with a gentle therapist.

Tollywood

Tollywood, the Telugu film industry based in Hyderabad, has produced several of the biggest Indian films of all time. S. S. Rajamouli's Bāhubali: The Beginning, Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion and RRR reached audiences across India and the world.

Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise and Pushpa 2 - The Rule follow a sandalwood smuggler, and Prabhas leads Saaho, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire and Kalki 2898-AD, a science fiction epic set in the far future.

The Tollywood and Kollywood guide introduces both kingdoms.

More from Tollywood

Telugu cinema has quieter treasures too. Sita Ramam is a love story set in the 1960s, told through a letter, and Lucky Baskhar follows a bank clerk in 1990s Bombay who finds a way to change his fortunes.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is a family entertainer with famous songs, Arjun Reddy a raw romantic drama, The Ghazi Attack a submarine thriller, and 1: Nenokkadine a psychological action film with Mahesh Babu.

Devara: Part 1 and V complete the kingdom's shelf.

Kollywood

Kollywood, the Tamil film industry named after the Kodambakkam area of Chennai, is known for bold directors and devoted fans. Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi, Vikram, Leo and Coolie form one of Indian cinema's first connected universes.

Rajinikanth, the most celebrated star of the South, leads 2.0, Jailer and Coolie, and Vijay leads Theri, Mersal, Master and Leo.

Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part I adapts a beloved historical novel set in the Chola kingdom.

Tamil drama and thrillers

Tamil cinema is also home to some of India's finest dramas. Jai Bhim follows a lawyer who fights for a tribal family, Soorarai Pottru is inspired by the founder of a low-cost airline, and Amaran tells the true story of an army officer.

96 is a tender story of school sweethearts meeting again, Super Deluxe weaves several stories into one bold film, and Vada Chennai is a crime saga across decades.

Ratsasan, Maharaja and Thani Oruvan are among the best Indian thrillers of their decade, and Shankar's I is a visual spectacle.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood, the Kannada film industry based in Bengaluru, took its name from Karnataka's famous sandalwood forests. It reached the whole country with Prashanth Neel's K.G.F: Chapter 1 and K.G.F: Chapter 2, the story of Rocky's rise in the gold fields.

Rishab Shetty's Kantara brought the folk traditions of coastal Karnataka to the screen, and Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1 returned to the legend's origins. 777 Charlie follows a lonely man and the stray dog who changes his life.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A is a tender love story, U Turn a clever thriller, and Mahavatar Narsimha an animated mythological epic. Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups brings Yash back in 2026.

Mollywood

Mollywood, the Malayalam film industry of Kerala, is admired across India for realistic stories and superb acting. Manjummel Boys follows a group of friends whose trip to a famous cave turns into a rescue, based on a true story, and it became one of the biggest Malayalam hits ever.

Bramayugam is a black-and-white folk horror film with Mammootty, Jallikattu follows a village chasing an escaped buffalo, and Aavesham is a wild comedy about a gangster who befriends three students.

Premam, Bangalore Days and Kumbalangi Nights are warm stories of love and family, Drishyam 2 continues one of India's most remade thrillers, and Minnal Murali is a village superhero story. All We Imagine as Light won the Grand Prix at Cannes.

Marathi cinema

Marathi cinema, from Maharashtra, is small but celebrated. Sairat follows two young lovers from different castes, and it became the most successful Marathi film ever, with songs that swept the country.

Court follows the trial of an elderly folk singer, Fandry a young boy in love in a divided village, and Killa a boy adjusting to a new town. The Disciple follows a young classical singer's devotion to his art.

Harishchandrachi Factory tells the story of Dadasaheb Phalke, who made India's first feature film in 1913, and Natsamrat follows an ageing stage actor.

Bengali cinema

Bengali cinema spans West Bengal in India and Bangladesh. From Kolkata come Chokher Bali, a period drama based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore, and The Japanese Wife, a love story told through letters.

From Dhaka come Monpura, a musical love story, Television, a gentle village comedy, and Mujib: The Making of a Nation, a biography of Bangladesh's founding leader.

Thrillers such as Surongo, Mirror Game and Vinci Da, and action films such as Dhaka Attack, show the range of the kingdom.

Hollywood

Hollywood is the eighth kingdom on KingMovies, gathered for the many viewers in India who watch American blockbusters, often with Hindi, Tamil or Telugu audio. The shelf holds the films audiences rate most highly and watch most often.

Marvel leads with Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: No Way Home and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer are among the most watched films on the shelf.

More Hollywood favourites

Science fiction and spectacle fill the rest of the shelf: Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, Dune and Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max: Fury Road and Top Gun: Maverick.

Family favourites include Despicable Me, Toy Story 3, WALL·E, Inside Out and Coco, and the Harry Potter films from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Joker, The Batman, Gone Girl, Whiplash and Django Unchained complete a shelf with something for every taste.

Web series of the realm

Hindi web series have become a kingdom of their own. KingMovies gathers the series with a complete story told across a few seasons; daily soaps and reality formats are left out.

Panchayat follows an engineering graduate who becomes secretary of a village council, and Gullak follows a middle-class family in a small town. Both are warm and funny, ideal for the whole family.

The web series guide suggests where to start, and each series page lists every season and episode.

Crime and thriller series

The Family Man follows a middle-class man who is secretly a spy, and Special Ops follows an intelligence officer tracking a terrorist over two decades. Farzi follows an artist drawn into counterfeiting.

Delhi Crime follows a police investigation of a real case and won an International Emmy, Paatal Lok follows a detective in over his head, and Criminal Justice follows a young man accused of murder and the lawyer who defends him.

Asur mixes forensic crime with mythology, Breathe: Into the Shadows follows a psychiatrist whose daughter is kidnapped, and Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story tells the story of a famous stock-market scandal.

Lighter series

Hostel Daze follows students in an engineering college hostel, full of friendship and mischief, and The Ba***ds of Bollywood is a satirical look at the film industry itself.

These series are short and easy to enjoy one episode at a time.

Most Hindi web series stream on Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar, SonyLIV and ZEE5, and the Watch now button shows the options for your country.

Crossing the borders

One of the pleasures of KingMovies is crossing from one kingdom to another. A viewer who loves K.G.F: Chapter 2 may enjoy Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, made by the same director in Telugu; a fan of Drishyam 2 may enjoy Maharaja or Ratsasan from Tamil cinema.

Lovers of Sairat may find the same heart in Kumbalangi Nights or 96, and fans of 12th Fail may enjoy Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru.

The genre shelves, Action, Drama, Thriller and crime, and Comedy, gather films from every kingdom in one place, which makes these crossings easy.

Pan-India films

A growing number of films are made to be seen across every kingdom at once. Called pan-India films, they are released on the same day in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, often with a star from each industry.

Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion, K.G.F: Chapter 2, RRR, Pushpa 2 - The Rule, Kalki 2898-AD and Kantara are among the most successful.

On streaming services, these films usually offer every language as a separate audio track, so the whole family can watch together in the language each prefers.

Action from every kingdom

The Action shelf brings together fights, chases and heroes from every kingdom. From Bollywood come War, Pathaan and KILL; from Tollywood, Pushpa 2 - The Rule and Devara: Part 1; from Kollywood, Vikram and Leo.

From Sandalwood come the K.G.F films, and from Mollywood, Minnal Murali. Hollywood adds Mad Max: Fury Road and Top Gun: Maverick.

The Action shelf is sorted by popularity, so the biggest films come first.

Audio and subtitles

Language is at the heart of KingMovies, and streaming services make it easy to choose. Many films, especially pan-India releases, are offered with several audio tracks: open the audio menu in the player and pick Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam or the original language.

Films from smaller kingdoms, such as Marathi and Bengali cinema or much of Malayalam cinema, are usually watched in the original language with English subtitles, which keep the actors' voices intact.

The audio and subtitles guide explains more, including subtitle size and colour.

Services for every kingdom

JioHotstar, Prime Video, Netflix, ZEE5 and SonyLIV carry films from every Indian industry. Regional services add depth: Aha for Telugu and Tamil, Sun NXT for Tamil and Malayalam, Hoichoi for Bengali and Planet Marathi for Marathi films.

Outside India, Netflix, Prime Video and ZEE5 carry many Indian films, and Apple TV and Google TV rent and sell new releases in many countries.

The guide to services compares them, and the Watch now button lists every option for your country.

Picture quality

Services stream in HD at 720p or 1080p, and many films in 4K with HDR on premium plans, adjusting quality to match your connection.

Pan-India spectacles such as RRR, Kalki 2898-AD and Ponniyin Selvan: Part I benefit most from a large screen, while character-driven films such as Court or Kumbalangi Nights work beautifully on any device.

On mobile data, most apps offer a data saver setting and downloads on Wi-Fi. The picture quality guide has more.

Phones and televisions

KingMovies works in any browser. On a phone the menu folds into a gold Menu button, the King of the day becomes a compact card, and the kingdom tiles line up two across.

For the big screen in the living room, pick the film on your phone, then either open the matching app on the television or send the picture across with Chromecast. The Indian services all have apps for smart televisions, Fire TV Stick and Google TV.

Add KingMovies to your home screen from the browser menu for one-tap access. The apps and devices guide has more.

Free and legal

Many Indian films can be watched free and legally. JioHotstar, MX Player, ZEE5 and YouTube's free films carry many titles with adverts, and several regional services offer free sections.

Outside India, Tubi, Pluto TV and Plex carry some Indian films with adverts, and many subscription services offer a free first week or month.

The Watch now button marks free options for your country. The free and legal guide gathers more.

My List

My List keeps the titles you want to watch. Press Add to My List on any title page, and it joins the My List page.

A good way to use it is a tour of the kingdoms: add one film from each of the eight, and watch them over a month of weekends.

The list lives in your browser and works right away. Export My List saves a small file; Import a saved copy merges it on another device. The My List guide has more.

More ways to find titles

The menu leads to the kingdoms, Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood and Web series, and the A-Z page lists every title alphabetically.

The kingdoms guide explains the industry names, the regional cinema guide covers Sandalwood, Mollywood, Marathi and Bengali films, and the finding titles guide explains search.

The how to watch guide walks through each step from a kingdom tile to the player.

The official KingMovies

KingMovies has one fixed address, shown in your browser, and its own design, writing and title pages: the royal plum page, the gold crown logo, the King of the day and the kingdom tiles with their gold shields.

Bookmark it or add it to your home screen, and it opens with your country and My List in place. Every Watch now button leads to JustWatch and official services.

The official site and site status guides explain what to check.

Staying safe

KingMovies shows posters, stories and links to JustWatch and official services, and every button goes exactly where its label says.

Official services keep your devices safe and support the actors, directors and crews of every kingdom. Keep your browser and devices updated for security fixes and better playback.

Elsewhere, leave pages that open windows on their own, ask you to install a player or ask for card details to watch something free. The safety guide has a short checklist.

How titles are chosen

Each kingdom's shelf is chosen by audience and score: the most popular and best-rated Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali films, the most watched Hollywood films of recent years, and the Hindi web series audiences rate most highly.

The smaller kingdoms have smaller shelves, chosen with care so that each one shows its best.

KingMovies is a site for a general audience. Titles sold on explicit sexual content, daily soaps and reality formats are left out, so every kingdom is comfortable to browse with family nearby.

Where the information comes from

Posters, stills, titles, original titles, stories, genres, runtimes, casts, episodes and audience scores come from TMDB, the community film and television database used around the world.

Where to watch comes from JustWatch, updated daily for every country. The help pages and this guide are written for KingMovies.

The catalogue is refreshed regularly, so new releases join their kingdoms as they reach home screens.

A tour of the kingdoms

If you are new to Indian cinema beyond your own language, a tour of the kingdoms is a wonderful way to begin. Pick one much-loved film from each, and watch one a week.

A good tour might run: Dangal for Bollywood, RRR for Tollywood, Vikram for Kollywood, Kantara for Sandalwood, Manjummel Boys for Mollywood, Sairat for Marathi cinema and Chokher Bali for Bengali cinema.

By the end you will have seen how differently each industry tells a story, and found a new kingdom to explore further.

Directors of the realm

Every kingdom has directors whose films are worth following. In Bollywood, Rajkumar Hirani made 3 Idiots, PK and Dunki; in Tollywood, S. S. Rajamouli made the Baahubali films and RRR; in Kollywood, Lokesh Kanagaraj made Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.

In Sandalwood, Prashanth Neel made both K.G.F films and Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire in Telugu. In Marathi cinema, Nagraj Manjule made Fandry and Sairat, and Chaitanya Tamhane made Court and The Disciple.

The title page names each director, and a search on the name gathers their films.

Songs of the kingdoms

Music is part of every Indian film, and each kingdom has its own sound. A. R. Rahman and Anirudh Ravichander define modern Tamil film music, and Anirudh's songs power Vikram, Jailer, Leo and Jawan.

M. M. Keeravani's Naatu Naatu from RRR won an Oscar, Ajay-Atul's songs made Sairat a phenomenon across Maharashtra, and the romantic songs of Saiyaara topped the charts in 2025.

A soundbar or good headphones bring out the full richness of these soundtracks.

True stories

Several films on KingMovies are drawn from real events. Dangal tells the story of the wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, 12th Fail the story of a police officer's struggle to pass his exam, and Manjummel Boys a real rescue from a deep cave.

Amaran tells the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, Soorarai Pottru is inspired by the founder of Air Deccan, and Harishchandrachi Factory tells how India's first feature film was made.

From Bangladesh, Mujib: The Making of a Nation tells the story of the country's founding leader.

Myth and legend

Mythology and folklore inspire many of the kingdoms' most striking films. Kantara and Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1 draw on the spirit worship of coastal Karnataka, and Bramayugam on the folk tales of Kerala.

Tumbbad is a tale of a cursed god and endless greed, Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva builds a world of ancient weapons, and Kalki 2898-AD imagines the final avatar of Vishnu in a distant future.

Mahavatar Narsimha retells the story of Vishnu's lion-man avatar in animation.

Love stories

Love stories are told differently in each kingdom. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kal Ho Naa Ho are Bollywood romance at its most famous, and Saiyaara and Sanam Teri Kasam are its newest hits.

Sita Ramam is a Telugu love story told through a letter, 96 a Tamil story of school sweethearts, Premam a Malayalam story of three loves, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A a Kannada story of a young couple, and Sairat a Marathi story of love across caste.

From Bengal, The Japanese Wife tells of a marriage conducted entirely by letter.

Family evenings

Many titles suit the whole family. Like Stars on Earth, 3 Idiots, Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and 777 Charlie are loved by every generation.

Panchayat and Gullak are gentle series for watching one episode a night, and Hollywood's Coco, Inside Out and Toy Story 3 are offered in several Indian languages.

Services add their own age ratings and parental controls, which you can set in each app's profile settings.

Festival films

Festivals are the great release weekends of Indian cinema: Diwali and Eid for Bollywood, Sankranti for Tollywood, Pongal for Kollywood, Onam for Mollywood. Many of the biggest films in the catalogue opened on those weekends.

For a festival evening at home, a crowd-pleaser such as Chennai Express, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo or Jailer brings everyone together.

Plan ahead with My List so the choice is ready when the family gathers.

New releases

The New releases shelf gathers titles from 2024 onward. 2024 brought Manjummel Boys, Bramayugam, Aavesham, Lost Ladies, Kalki 2898-AD and Pushpa 2 - The Rule.

2025 brought Dhurandhar, Saiyaara, Coolie and Kantara - A Legend: Chapter 1, and 2026 brings Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups.

New Indian films usually reach streaming four to eight weeks after their cinema release, and the Watch now button shows each stage for your country.

Reading the scores

Every poster on KingMovies shows its TMDB audience score in a small gold ring. Scores above eight mark the titles audiences love most, and the hall of fame is made almost entirely of them.

The number of votes matters as much as the score. A blockbuster rated by thousands of viewers has a settled score, while a Marathi or Bengali film with a smaller audience may move as more people discover it.

Scores are a helpful guide rather than a final word, and some of the finest films in the smaller kingdoms sit just below the top.

Worth watching again

Many titles reward a second viewing. Andhadhun, Maharaja and Ratsasan are full of clues that only make sense once you know the ending, and Super Deluxe reveals new connections each time.

Watching a pan-India film in a second language can feel new too: try RRR in Telugu after seeing it in Hindi, or K.G.F: Chapter 2 in Kannada.

Keep a small shelf of favourites in My List alongside the titles you are yet to discover.

Weeknight viewing

Many Indian films run close to three hours, so the runtime on each title page helps you plan. On a weeknight, a web series episode, or a shorter film such as Court or Killa, often fits best.

A long film can also be split across two evenings; most services remember exactly where you stopped.

Save the epics, from Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion to Ponniyin Selvan: Part I, for the weekend.

For viewers abroad

Indian films have loyal audiences across the world, from London and Toronto to Dubai, Singapore and Sydney. For many families abroad, a weekend film is a way to stay close to home and to share a language with children.

The country menu covers the largest communities, and the Watch now button shows the services available in each.

English subtitles make the films easy to share with friends from every background.

Long live the kingdoms

KingMovies exists to celebrate every kingdom of Indian cinema and to make each film easy to watch legally, in the language you prefer, wherever you live.

From the King of the day to the kingdom tiles and the hall of fame, every part of the page invites you to cross a border and discover something new.

Bookmark KingMovies, build your list, and enjoy your reign.

Queens of the realm

Some of the strongest films on KingMovies put women at the centre. Gangubai Kathiawadi follows a woman who rises to power in Mumbai, Lost Ladies follows two young brides finding their own way, and Pink follows three women seeking justice in court.

All We Imagine as Light follows three women in Mumbai, Mom is a mother's fight for her daughter, and Rehana Maryam Noor follows a determined doctor in Dhaka.

These films show every kingdom telling stories of courage from a woman's point of view.

Thrillers from every kingdom

Every kingdom makes fine thrillers. From Bollywood come Andhadhun, Jaane Jaan and Haseen Dillruba; from Kollywood, Ratsasan and Maharaja; from Sandalwood, U Turn.

From Mollywood comes Drishyam 2, and from Bengali cinema, Surongo, Mirror Game, Ahalya and Vinci Da.

The Thriller and crime shelf gathers them all, whatever their language.

Comedy from every kingdom

Comedy travels well between kingdoms. Bollywood offers 3 Idiots, PK, Stree and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar; Mollywood offers Aavesham and Premam; Tollywood offers Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

From Bengali cinema come Television and Daruchini Dwip, gentle comedies of village and youth, and Utshob, a festive family comedy.

The Comedy shelf gathers them all.

Drama from every kingdom

The Drama shelf holds some of the most admired films on the site. Court, Fandry and The Disciple from Marathi cinema have won prizes at festivals around the world.

Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru from Kollywood, Kumbalangi Nights from Mollywood and 12th Fail from Bollywood are loved for their honesty and heart.

From Bengal, Chokher Bali and Monpura show the kingdom's long tradition of literary cinema.

History on screen

History fills some of the grandest films in the catalogue. Padmaavat tells the legend of Rani Padmavati, Ponniyin Selvan: Part I the story of the Chola kingdom, and RRR a fictional adventure set in the 1920s.

Harishchandrachi Factory shows the birth of Indian cinema in 1913, and Mujib: The Making of a Nation the birth of Bangladesh.

These films are rich in costume, music and detail, and reward a large screen.

Sport on screen

Sport inspires several films on KingMovies. Dangal follows two champion wrestlers and their father, and Sultan follows a wrestler's comeback.

From Hollywood, Top Gun: Maverick offers a different kind of competition in the sky, and Whiplash turns music school into a contest of wills.

These films are full of emotion and make wonderful family viewing.

Stars of the southern kingdoms

The southern kingdoms have stars as famous as any in Bollywood. Prabhas leads the Baahubali films, Saaho, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire and Kalki 2898-AD; Allu Arjun leads Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and both Pushpa films; Ram Charan and Jr NTR share RRR.

In Kollywood, Kamal Haasan leads Vikram, Vijay leads Master and Leo, and Rajinikanth leads Jailer and Coolie. In Sandalwood, Yash leads the K.G.F films, and in Mollywood, Fahadh Faasil leads Aavesham and Mammootty leads Bramayugam.

Searching a star's name gathers their films together on one page.

Bangladeshi cinema

The Bengali kingdom includes films from Bangladesh, whose industry is based in Dhaka. Monpura became one of the most loved Bangladeshi films, a musical love story set on a remote island.

Television is a gentle comedy about a village elder who bans television, Rehana Maryam Noor a tense drama that premiered at Cannes, and Surongo and Dhaka Attack are popular thrillers.

Mission Extreme 2: Black War and MR-9: Do or Die bring action on a larger scale, and Rooting for Roona is a moving documentary.

More Marathi treasures

Marathi cinema punches far above its size. Natsamrat follows an ageing Shakespearean actor facing his final act, 1000 Rupee Note a village woman caught up in an election, and Sunrise a father searching for his missing daughter.

These films are usually watched in Marathi with English subtitles, which keep the rhythm of the language intact.

The Marathi cinema shelf holds the whole kingdom.

Heists and schemes

Clever schemes appear in every kingdom. Lucky Baskhar follows a bank clerk who finds a way to beat the system in 1990s Bombay, Farzi follows an artist drawn into counterfeiting, and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga stages a diamond heist aboard a flight.

Raid turns the tables, following an honest tax officer who raids a powerful politician's house, and Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story tells the true story of a stock-market scandal.

These titles are sharp, fast and ideal for an evening with friends.

Horror and folk horror

Indian horror draws on folk tales and village legends. Tumbbad and Bramayugam are two of the most admired horror films of recent years, one in Hindi and one in Malayalam, both steeped in myth.

Stree adds comedy to the chills, and from Hollywood, The Conjuring follows real-life investigators into a haunted farmhouse.

Watch these with the lights on, or with someone brave beside you.

Underdog stories

Audiences in every kingdom love an underdog. 12th Fail follows a young man who fails and tries again, Killa a boy finding his place in a new town, and 777 Charlie a lonely man and a stray dog who save each other.

Soorarai Pottru follows a village teacher's son who dreams of starting an airline, and Sairat two young lovers who defy their families.

These films are full of hope and make an uplifting evening.

Stars who cross kingdoms

Stars increasingly work across kingdoms. Prabhas moved from Telugu films to pan-India epics such as Kalki 2898-AD, Dulquer Salmaan leads the Telugu films Sita Ramam and Lucky Baskhar as well as Malayalam hits, and Vijay Sethupathi appears in both Vikram and Jawan.

These crossings are one of the reasons the kingdoms feel closer than ever, and a search for a star's name shows how far their reign extends.

Following one actor through several kingdoms is a lovely way to discover new films.

Sagas and sequels

Several kingdoms now build long sagas. The Baahubali and K.G.F films each tell one story across two parts, Pushpa: The Rise continues in Pushpa 2 - The Rule, and Dhurandhar continues in Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

Watching both parts of a saga together is one of the best ways to spend a weekend, and My List keeps the second part ready.
